Learning targets
M, D
mad · dad
Model the sounds, invite a response, and help children try again. Participation and independent reading are different observations.
Materials to prepare
- Connect your computer to the classroom screen and speakers. Check sound before children arrive. Internet is needed.
- Preview the activity and writing sheets. Print enough for your group, prepare word cards and an exit check, and keep the teacher guide nearby. Cut cards and print the matching spaces at the same scale.
- Prepare m, a, d and an extra d card, mad/dad pictures and pencils. Keep a and d in place while changing the first letter.
- Keep the lesson slides ready if a video does not play. Read the English notes and model the action yourself.

Story voices
The class screen shows each picture. Read both voices, pause, and invite the children to join in.
1. Welcome to the bubble lab!
- Jimin: Welcome to the bubble lab!
- Adam: Today we make sounds with bubbles!
- Jimin: Are you ready? Let's go!
Read both voices. Invite children to find a bubble from their seats, then say bubble together. The pictured lab is our story setting; no real experiment equipment is needed.
2. A round start for d
- Adam: Look! M has two hills!
- Jimin: And c turns into d!
- Adam: So cool! M and d!
The original still shows lowercase m and c, before the change described in the dialogue. Read the lines, reveal live lowercase d, and model its round part and tall stroke. Keep your air writing facing the same way as the class screen.
3. Two sounds to try
- Adam: Pop, pop!
- Jimin: The bubbles are popping!
- Adam: Look, it's M and D!
Read the original dialogue and point to M, then D. The story names letters. In Sound Discovery, use the recordings for a sustained /m/ and a brief /d/ without an extra vowel.
4. See you next time!
- Jimin: Great job, everyone!
- Adam: M and D are fun!
- Jimin: Bye-bye! See you next time!
Wave together. Continue to Sound Discovery, then use a and d as a fixed ending while changing the first m in mad to d in dad.
