SESSION 5 · PREPARE

Fishing Pond

Learning targets

K, E, U, R

run · kit

Model the sounds, invite a response, and help children try again. Participation and independent reading are different observations.

Materials to prepare

  • Connect your computer to the classroom screen and speakers. Check sound before children arrive. Internet is needed.
  • Preview the activity and writing sheets. Print enough for your group, prepare word cards and an exit check, and keep the teacher guide nearby. Cut cards and print the matching spaces at the same scale.
  • Printed sheets and seven letter cards: u, k, n, e, t, r, i. Prepare the three cards for just one word at a time. Keep e for sound practice. No water, hooks or fishing rods are needed.
  • Keep the lesson slides ready if a video does not play. Read the English notes and model the action yourself.

Story voices

The class screen shows each picture. Read both voices, pause, and invite the children to join in.

1. Look at the pond!
  • Jimin: Look at the pond!
  • Adam: Bubbles are swimming!
  • Jimin: Let's fish!

Read both voices and point to the water in the picture. Let children point or say pond from their seats. We are pretending; no water or fishing equipment is needed.

2. Letters above the pond
  • Adam: K, E, U, R!
  • Jimin: They are swimming up!
  • Adam: New letters!

Read the four letter names in the original dialogue. Point to E, then U in the picture. Save their recorded sounds for Sound Discovery.

3. We caught them!
  • Adam: Pop!
  • Jimin: New sounds!
  • Adam: We caught them!

Point to one pictured letter and invite a small finger pinch in the air. Name it together, then choose another. The letters are already visible, so this is shared noticing rather than a hidden-answer quiz.

4. See you at the pond!
  • Jimin: Big catch today!
  • Adam: Fish again soon!
  • Jimin: Keep fishing!

Wave together, then continue to Sound Discovery. Later, use r/u/n for run and k/i/t for kit. Put one word away before preparing the next set of three cards.
