Learning targets
Y, Z, X, Q
zip · quiz
Model the sounds, invite a response, and help children try again. Participation and independent reading are different observations.
Materials to prepare
- Connect your computer to the classroom screen and speakers. Check sound before children arrive. Internet is needed.
- Preview the activity and writing sheets. Print enough for your group, prepare word cards and an exit check, and keep the teacher guide nearby. Cut cards and print the matching spaces at the same scale.
- Use the eight cutout cards, letter models and zip/quiz pictures. Keep q and u on the same wide card. Extra i and z cards let both words stay on the table. Offer finger rockets or seated pointing.
- Keep the lesson slides ready if a video does not play. Read the English notes and model the action yourself.

Story voices
The class screen shows each picture. Read both voices, pause, and invite the children to join in.
1. Ready for space
- Jimin: Stars and bubbles!
- Adam: Let's jump!
- Jimin: Blast off!
Read the two voices. Lift one finger like a little rocket from your seat. Keep the original jump line as part of the story; no one needs to leave their place.
2. Four space letters
- Adam: Y, Z, X, Q!
- Jimin: Rare letters!
- Adam: So special!
Name and point to Z, then Q. The letters are already visible. Use letter names for this story invitation and save the sound models for Sound Discovery.
3. A tiny space jump
- Jimin: Pop!
- Adam: Jump, jump!
- Jimin: We got them!
Make two small finger jumps on your palm. Children can keep their feet still. Do not describe the still illustration as showing a physical jump.
4. Wave to the stars
- Jimin: To the stars!
- Adam: Fly back soon!
- Jimin: Keep flying!
Wave from your seat, then bring hands down to look at the letter cards. Move into Y/Z/X/Q sound practice after the story.
