SESSION 13 · PREPARE

Little Doctor Clinic

Learning targets

D, H, S

dad · dog · hot

Model the sounds, invite a response, and help children try again. Participation and independent reading are different observations.

Materials to prepare

  • Connect your computer to the classroom screen and speakers. Check sound before children arrive. Internet is needed.
  • Preview the activity and writing sheets. Print enough for your group, prepare word cards and an exit check, and keep the teacher guide nearby. Cut cards and print the matching spaces at the same scale.
  • Prepare seven letter cards, including two d cards, three word cards and pencils. For the optional experiment, an adult prepares and tests a two-cup string phone. Keep string away from necks and walkways. Without equipment, pass a spoken word directly. Use the hot picture, never hot objects.
  • Keep the lesson slides ready if a video does not play. Read the English notes and model the action yourself.

Lesson flow · 45-minute guide

  1. 0–4 min

    1. Hello Routine

Model the little-doctor greeting for children to repeat.

    Teaching notes
    Say
Hello, little doctors! Say hello with me.
    Look for
Listen for children returning the greeting.
    If difficult
    Let children repeat just hello.
  2. 4–9 min

    2. Review Bridge

Show pot, top and log one at a time. Allow thinking time before giving a model.

    Teaching notes
    Say
Let's read pot, top, and log again.
    Look for
Listen for children reading the word shown on each card.
    If difficult
Point to each letter and blend one word together.
  3. 9–14 min

    3. Bubble Theater

Read the five original scenes or play the story. Scene four shows a cup telephone; distinguish pretend beat dialogue from the sound experiment.

    Teaching notes
    Say
    Let's watch our doctor story.
    Look for
Watch for children following the story on the screen.
    If difficult
Pause on one picture and briefly describe it.
  4. 14–24 min

    4. Sound Discovery

Use the D, H, and S clinic cards to model and review each letter's sound.

    Teaching notes
    Say
Look at each letter on the cards. Let's make its sound.
    Look for
Listen for children making the sound of the letter you indicate.
    If difficult
Model one card's sound and let children repeat it before continuing.
  5. 24–32 min

    5. Guided Practice

Build dad with two d cards. Keep the first d; change the middle and last letters for dog. Keep o and change both outer letters for hot. Read each whole word.

    Teaching notes
    Say
Let's read dad, dog, and hot.
    Look for
Listen for children reading the word you indicate.
    If difficult
Point to each letter and blend one word together.
  6. 32–37 min

    6. Singing Bubble

Play the Doctor chant and model its words for children to follow.

    Teaching notes
    Say
    Let's do our doctor chant.
    Look for
Listen for children joining a familiar part of the chant.
    If difficult
Model one short part slowly for children to repeat.
  7. 37–43 min

    7. STEAM Activity

Use an adult-prepared cup telephone to compare a straight and loose string with the same word. Keep the string away from necks and walkways. Without cups, use word cards and speak directly. Record what was heard; this is not a heartbeat test.

    Teaching notes
    Say
Say a word. I will listen. Now let's swap roles.
    Look for
Watch for one speaking and one listening turn. Note what was heard in each condition.
    If difficult
Model one direct spoken word without equipment, then let the child echo or point.
  8. 43–45 min

    8. Exit Ticket

Say one word and let children select hot, dog or dad. Separately offer one plain card before a spoken model; note whether it was read with help.

    Teaching notes
    Say
Listen to the word. Choose the matching card.
    Look for
Watch for children choosing the word that matches what they hear.
    If difficult
Offer two word cards and repeat the word.

Story voices

The class screen shows each picture. Read both voices, pause, and invite the children to join in.

1. Welcome to the toy clinic
  • Jimin: A patient is here!
  • Adam: I'm the little doctor!
  • Jimin: Let's help!

Read the original voices and greet the toy patient. The clinic costumes belong to this original scene. No child needs to share a health story or play a sick person.

2. D, H and S
  • Adam: D, H, S!
  • Jimin: Doctor, heart, sick!
  • Adam: Three letters!

Name the visible letters in the original dialogue. Doctor, heart and sick are story vocabulary. Practise the D/H/S sounds with the existing letter audio in the next stage.

3. Pop three bubbles
  • Jimin: Pop!
  • Adam: D, H, S!
  • Jimin: New sounds!

Read the original New sounds! line as story dialogue. These letters have already appeared in this course. Invite small finger movements while seated; revisit their sounds afterwards.

4. Talk and listen
  • Jimin: Listen closely!
  • Adam: I can hear it!
  • Jimin: Ba-dum, ba-dum!

The picture shows a cup telephone, not the toy stethoscope from scene one. Read the original beat dialogue, then model a spoken hello. Use the prepared cup phone or simply face a partner. A working string phone needs a taut, freely moving string; the picture shows it hanging loose.

5. See you, teddy
  • Jimin: All better now!
  • Adam: Stay healthy, friends!
  • Jimin: Stay healthy!

Read the friendly story ending and wave. Keep this as pretend play; do not suggest that saying a word cures illness. Move to familiar words with the class.
